Case Studies
PersonnelThe Centre has an extensive range of processing hardware specifically
designed for micro and nano moulding activities, including:
3 Battenfeld Microsystem 50
3 Fanuc 2000i Roboshot
Rondol High Force 5
MILC (twin screw compounding/micromoulding).
This combination of equipment provides flexibility and allows us to fabricate
a variety of component types from a range of materials including engineering
thermoplastics, nano-composites and metal and ceramic powders.
Ultrasound Sensor Installation
Cavity sensors are particularly important for micromoulding. However, the physical size of commercial sensors can pose problems. Ongoing work at the Centre is developing applications for novel sensor technologies (such as ultrasound and optical methods) in a micromoulding process.
Data Acquisition Software
Each machine has been adapted to encompass a range of aftermarket sensors to precisely measure the material behaviour and equipment dynamics during a manufacturing trial. Custom software solutions with user-friendly interfaces have been developed to acquire, process and archive manufacturing data.
Robotic Handling Systems
These systems ensure that products can be transported reliably to subsequent quality assessment and packaging processes. Clean room facilities ensure that the process and products remain free from contamination.
